Natural antioxidants and their benefits


Natural Antioxidants are substances which can neutralize the free radicals and thus preventing damage to cells and tissues. And perhaps also prevent disease.


Antioxidants are a number of substances that we must make sure to get in with the diet or as supplements.

An antioxidant function in one of two ways

1. Prevents the formation of free radicals

2. Inhibit the free radicals if they are already formed

Natural Antioxidants occur naturally in healthy foods, but is largely removed when the food is refined or cooked. The healthiest foods are also the best sources of natural antioxidants, namely fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes, seeds and nuts. Also, whole grains and fish contain antioxidants.

The question is whether you are getting enough antioxidants.

Take supplements that contain sufficient amounts of the vitamins and minerals that act as antioxidants. It includes the vitamins A, B1, B3, B6, C and E titamin vitamin. Also the minerals zinc, manganese, copper and selenium are antioxidants.

Natural antioxidants, ingredients of plants, herbs, in particular, to the Labiate family contain high concentrations of phenolic antioxidants. Extracts of rosemary, oregano and sage are added so processed meat products, dressings, frozen ready meals and dried foods instead of synthetic antioxidants. The interaction between plant phenols, carotenoids, vitamin C and vitamin E in food is of particular interest because non-vitamin antioxidants and vitamin antioxidants often reinforce each other's antioxidative effect.

The use of artificial food additives

Many people take supplements with high levels of antioxidants in the belief that it can counteract the damage caused by smoking or alcohol intake, but unfortunately, a high intake of antioxidants in the form of pills not make up for the harmful effects of smoking and alcohol, and the risk of diseases such as cancer and eye diseases cannot be reduced by dietary supplements.

In fact, for large doses of antioxidants directly harmful side effects, such as impaired immune systems, bleeding and reduced cell renewal. Therefore, you should think twice before running into the nearest chemist to cram supplements in the basket.

Vitamin E, vitamin C and beta-carotene (vitamin A) are natural antioxidants, which you can easily get through, among other whole grain products, vegetable oils, vegetables, fruits and nuts.

So there it is a good reason to get plenty of vegetables and coarse every day. And then a green and coarse diet of course also to recommend in general. Possibly the easiest way to take a pill, but offset against the adverse effects that are associated with such supplements are the natural way that is far preferable. Natural antioxidants are the safest.
